About the class
The 4K classroom is for children who are 3 ½ to 4 ½ years of age. We maintain a teacher to student ratio of 1:17. Teachers are experienced workers certified in First Aid and CPR.

Things to know
You may send your child with breakfast from home up until 8:00 a.m. Your child will receive the most benefit from our program if they arrive by 8:30 a.m. If your child arrives after 8:30, they may miss part of the morning lesson or art activity. The teachers in 4K use thematic units to plan their daily curriculum; weekly lesson plans are distributed to the parents. Children are provided with lunch at 11:00, and an afternoon snack at 2:00. We will provide alternate meals for children with allergies or dietary restrictions. Everyone lays down at 12:00 for quiet-time. Children who are not asleep by 12:30 are offered a book or quiet activity. Children will need to bring a small blanket & pillow. These items will be sent home on Fridays to be washed. Children will need to keep a change of clothes at school that fit in a gallon-size storage bag; please change these with the changing seasons. Each child has a cubby space to hold their personal items. We recommend purchasing a Closetmaid fabric drawer to keep your child’s belongings contained and secure.

Keeping busy
Children are provided with one-hour of outdoor playtime every morning and afternoon (weather permitting). Please send your child to school in socks and closed-toe shoes. Sandals, flip-flops, and Crocs lead to foot injuries and discomfort on the playground. The 4K class attends chapel every other Wednesday. The director of children’s formation at Holy Cross Episcopal Church reads non-denominational bible stories, teaches prayers, and sings songs with the children in the sanctuary. A 30-minute music class is available on Monday mornings at an additional cost. Sports and fitness classes are available weekly for an additional charge – more information. Children typically move to 5K nine months to one year prior to beginning kindergarten.
